Orðkar Session 20 Play / Photos / Game Summary 6 Feb 2023
After a night’s rest and with renewed determination, the Party set their sights on the daunting task of clearing out the remaining depths of the dungeon level.
As Nox's Imp familiar scouts ahead, invisible to the naked eye, it stealthily maneuvers through the twists and turns of the long eastern corridor. Halfway up the corridor, it drops down a set of stairs to a landing, which then continues back up to the same level. From there, it observes the continuation of the corridor up to the same level and a stairway that leads downward and west, toward the ominous Grand Cathedral where the party previously faced the Flameskull and many battles with Ghouls.
Further along, the Imp spots two skeleton warriors standing motionless with their crossbows at the ready, as if waiting for unsuspecting prey. The party decides to take the risk and boldly advances, with Mothy and Grishnak leading the charge while Malachar close behind ready to give them a Taste of Gutdigger. Mauxracle and Nox follow cautiously behind, while Brival keeps watch at the rear to guard against any unexpected attacks.
As they dash up the corridor, arrows whiz past them, narrowly missing their marks. But the party presses on, determined to face whatever comes their way. Nox unleashes his famed Eldritch Blast, and with two powerful hits, one of the skeleton warriors crumbles into dust. Meanwhile, Grishnak and Mothy engage in a fierce sword fight with the remaining skeleton warrior, determined to come out victorious.
However, their triumph is short-lived, as a ghoul - one that had fled from them earlier - suddenly appears to take the place of the defeated skeleton. The ghoul lunges at Grishnak, who is momentarily caught off guard and sustains a wound. But the party quickly rallies together and fights back, swiftly defeating the ghoul and preventing it from causing any further harm. As the dust settles, the party takes a moment to catch their breath and assess their surroundings. They know that more dangers await them, but with their skills and bravery, they are ready to face whatever comes their way.
As Nox's familiar soared to the end of the corridor, it spotted a horrifying sight. A monstrous undead creature loomed before them, its long arms ending in ghastly hooks that could tear even the bravest warriors to shreds. Nox immediately relayed the information to the rest of the party, and after a brief discussion, Grishnak boldly declared, "Let's just attack!"
Without hesitation, Nox unleashed a fiery blast, sending a searing fireball hurtling toward the creature. Though the blast didn't prove fatal, it caused great damage and weakened the creature significantly. Grishnak, Malabar, and Mothy seized the opportunity to charge at the creature, determined to take it down once and for all.
The undead monster tried to fight back, but the party was too quick for it. Before the creature even had a chance to raise its menacing arms, Grishnak struck it with a mighty Divine Smite. The sound of bones shattering filled the room as the creature crumpled to the floor, defeated and lifeless.
As the party approached the door leading to the circular pit room (R20), they quickly formulated a plan of attack. "Let's split up and attack from both sides," they decided, confident that this strategy would catch their enemy - some sort of snake / skeleton construct - off guard.
Without delay, Malachar and Brival set out to circle around the dungeon, heading toward the opposite door that would lead them to their target. With every step, they remained vigilant, carefully scanning their surroundings and listening for any sign of danger.
After a wait for the Brival and Malachar to get in place, Mothy kicks open the door and the party carefully enters the room. Hearing the door open, the Thief/Fighter and the Ranger also open the door.
As they cautiously scanned their surroundings, they realize that the room was eerily silent and empty. There were no signs of their enemies, no traps, no hidden passages, except for the great pit in the centre of the room.
As the party stood there in stunned silence, suddenly a movement caught their eye. From the depths of the pit, a Necrophidius rose up before them, its serpentine body swaying ominously back and forth.
Transfixed by the creature's terrifying presence, everyone in the party except Grishnak found themselves frozen in place, unable to move or speak. In this moment of hesitation, the Necrophidius struck out at Birval with lightning speed, its deadly fangs sinking deep into the fighter's flesh.
As the Necrophidius continued its attack on the party, Brival's adrenaline kicked in, and he quickly sprang into action. With all his might, he hauled Malachar back into the corridor, jolting him out of his trance. Malachar, fully awake and alert, sprang forward to join the fray. But as he lunged at the Necrophidius with his weapon, the creature struck out once again, sinking its venomous fangs into Malachar's flesh. The poison coursed through his veins, causing him to falter and fall back into a deep slumber.
On the other side of the room, Nox's Imp familiar sprang into action, sensing the danger that the party was in. With a sense of urgency, the Imp flew up to Nox and roused him from his sleep. Instantly awake, Nox summoned his magical powers and cast Scorching Ray, unleashing a torrent of flames upon the creature.
Grisnak uses his Misty Step to teleport across the room and quickly dispatches the monster. The Imp in the meantime has flown over to Mothy and woken him from his slumber, but he is too late to join the fray. Meanwhile, Mauxracle comes out of his daze and uses Revivify to bring Malachar out of his poisoned state.
