Date is May 28, 922 “New Reckoning” - day before full moon.
Our group is on a mission to find out where the body parts being sent to Holoðton are coming from. They know a "dark elf" is behind it all, and the trail leads to an island up the river.
They leave Holoðton in the late morning, and arrive at a little place called Firebend, a small town on the south shore of the river. They rent two rooms at the local inn.
You are wakened by sounds of a wailing woman. You go outside to investigate and see a woman being held back by several other women - “my child, my child has disappeared”, she screams.
You find out that during the night, her boy woke up and left her home, leaving the door wide open. No one in the village - including yourselves - saw or heard a thing though. “It’s that Damned Temple”, says one of the locals.
The mayor asks - “can do something, for we see you are powerful, and have a Ranger who can track maybe where the child went”* *
Malachar, the Ranger, follows the faint footprints of the missing child, leading him all the way to the Temple. The trail abruptly ends at a door nestled into the side of a hill. A thick layer of sand and dust covers everything, painting a picture of age and abandonment, the the dust and sand moves on its own, ever so slightly.
The group descends into the dungeon. The dust and sand swirls, moving like a living thing. They first venture to the room to the south, where a treasure chest yields a not just gold, an expensive necklace strung with gleaming pearls, a diamond - and combat with a Mimic.
The path leading has a hidden trap that unleash a barrage of poison arrows into the unsuspecting group. Their journey takes a more dangerous turn as they head into the northeast room, where a pack of Dust Mephits launch an attack. When the creatures are defeated, they explode, temporarily blinding both Grisnak and Malachar in their death throes.
In the wake of the battle, Mauxracle quickly uses his healing skills to cure Grisnak, while Malachar regains his sight after a nerve-wracking passage of time.
Pushing westwards, they stumble upon a single, solitary Mummy lurking in the northwestern room. A child is still, laying on an altar, but seemingly still alive. Malachar jumps into action; Grisnak take a Misty Step behind the mummy, and Nox, quick with his magic, incinerates the foe with his Fire Bolt and Scorching Ray spells, reducing the Mummy to a pile of ashes.
Triumphant and exhausted, the group returns the child to their village - the air is filled with the villagers' cries of joy.
Saying goodbyes to the villagers of Firebend, the group sets off on the next leg of their journey. The road - more of a path now - stretches out before them, taking them to their next destination, the settlement of Mirefield. This place is smaller, the community tighter, with not even an inn in sight.
They rent a room in a local's home. Amid the exchange of greetings and local tales, they are told of a band of bandits taking refuge in the nearby hills. Eyes filled with hope turn to the adventurers, as they are asked if they could lend their strength to rid Mirefield of this scourge.
